Intro to Blog

Hello there!
It's been a long time since I've created a blog, and I feel that it's time for a new one. And what better way to start than with one dedicated to my Steampunk alter-ego, Captain Ophedia Blackwood-Swann? I'm more than excited to begin this blog, especially since I'll be documenting my progress in creating a Steampunk costume for this upcoming Halloween. What a delight!
I'd have to say that the best part about this project will be the time I'm going to be spending with my father. He jumped at the idea of helping me create this costume, as he is also a fan of the mechanical wonder that is Steampunk. Being an artistic wood worker (they call him the "Renaissance Man"), he has alot to offer me with his help. I get my creative streak from him, and it's going to be great fun working with him.
I've really gotten into the Steampunk style in the past year, and I find it facsinating. The detail that people put into their handiwork amazes me, and every little piece becomes a wonder to behold. I don't think there has been a Steampunk style that I haven't been impressed with. When a person pays such amazing attention to every detail in a painting, they get a beautiful creation. The same goes with music and liteature, so it's the same for design.
I'm not a seamstress. In fact, I've only used a needle 3 times in my life. And 2 out of those three times ended with me bleeding on the fabric. I don't expect this costume to involve much sewing, save for fixing up a shirt from the thrift or creating a bustle skirt, but even that will give me some experience to work with in the future. I'm going to be using a mix of things bought from thrift stores and the internet, Amazon.com already being my go-to store, but even store-bought items will be given a personal touch of mechanical design. For example, I've found a cheap, every-day, outer-wear black corset on Amazon, and it's pretty plain. But, using gears, chains, and even a bit of paint, I can turn it into a beatiful masterpiece fit for a mechanical princess.
I should wrap up this intro and get to the posting, or else I'll end up giving everything away. I hope you enjoy my posting!

Signed,

RM (a.k.a. Captain Ophedia Blackwood-Swann
